Top 5 beaches in the Aude

You have just booked your top-of-the-range furnished and equipped rental accommodation at the Flower Domaine de La Palme campsite in Occitania, and you are wondering what to do in the Aude? Take advantage of your stay in the Mediterranean to swim in crystal-clear waters, practice water sports and relax on the most beautiful beaches of the Aude.

The Aude coastline

With its 50 km of fine sandy beaches, its large lakes, its water sports centres, its walks along the seafront and its 5 large seaside resorts, the Aude coastline has more than one argument to hold the visitor back. In the course of the same day, it is possible to visit a Cathar castle, to go hiking in the Narbonnaise en Méditerranée regional nature park, to try water skiing, to admire the houses on stilts by the sea and to enjoy a few hours of idleness under the Mediterranean sun. Welcome to Occitania. Welcome to any beach in the Aude.

The 5 most beautiful beaches in the Aude

Plage du Rouet, La Palme : It takes about 25 minutes by car from the campsite to reach this beach (14 km) located on the edge of the pond of La Palme. A discreet beach hidden by bushes, far from the summer crowds, ideal for a total change of scenery and to lose your eyes where the sea and the sky meet.

Kyklos Beach, Port-Leucate: This Californian-style beach is frequented by joggers, walkers, cyclists and rollerbladers. The pontoon tower and the beach huts make it unique.

Plage des Cabanes, Fleury: This beach in the Aude is located in the north of the department, a 40 minute drive from the campsite Domaine de La Palme, in an old fishing village. You will appreciate the preserved environment and the reed huts, all within a stone's throw of the garrigue and the vineyards. The beach of the cabins is supervised in summer. It is easily accessible (parking nearby) and close to the town centre.

Plage des Chalets, Gruissan: Bordered by ponds, elegant chalets and houses on stilts, this sandy beach less than 10 km from the campsite was the location for the film "37°2 le Matin". Its preserved coastline, retro look and family atmosphere make it one of the most sought-after beaches in the Aude whatever the season. The area is made up of 10 islets, another unusual detail that is far from unnoticed. The beach is served by a cycle path that runs along the canal and connects it with the town centre. It has several car parks, a restaurant, mattress and pedal boat hire, a beach volleyball court, toilets and a water sports centre.

Plage du Franqui, Leucate: A fabulous site protected by a high cliff, one of the favourite spots for kitesurfers and windsurfers on the Occitan coast. It has a large number of facilities: toilets, car parks, restaurants, showers, water sports centre, access for the disabled, etc. Note that it is very exposed to the Tramontane wind. If you prefer beaches with little exposure to the wind, we recommend the neighbouring beach, La Plagette.
