Tourism in Lagrasse

Nestled in the heart of a Corbières valley bordered by vineyards, Lagrasse is one of the "Most Beautiful Villages of France" and therefore one of the most beautiful villages in the Aude. Its particularly well-preserved medieval architecture gives it an exceptional historical character. Crossed by the Orbieu River which winds its way through the old houses and surrounded by pine trees, the town was built around the Benedictine Abbey of Sainte Marie, which was born under Charlemagne.

In addition to part of its ramparts, the village with its narrow streets has preserved a magnificent 14th century market hall and the 12th century bridge leading to the abbey. After the Revolution, Lagrasse developed a cloth industry which made it one of the most important markets in the region. As well as the quality of the typical Corbières wines it produces, the town (less than an hour's drive from the Domaine de la Palme) is also worth a visit for the arts and crafts it houses. Between the church and the market place, you can stop in the numerous artists' workshops and stalls. The municipality is strongly committed to culture and organises the "Banquet du livre", a literary event with national success, several times a year. At the exit of the village, do not hesitate to join the gorges of Orbieu for a refreshing bath in the pure water of the river appreciated by the fishermen.
